Chris Burns (chrisburnss) has been consistently active on GitHub since 2023.
He has been working on Gimbal since July 4th, meaning he was building on it almost from the launch of Robinhood Chain.
In other words, he was remarkably early and arguably visionary to bet on lending against tokenized stocks from day one.
Gimbal (GitHub organization: useGimbal) is a fixed-rate, fixed-term peer-to-peer lending protocol secured by tokenized stocks, including Robinhood Stock Tokens such as AAPL, NVDA and SPY.
Gimbal is essentially positioning itself as the on-chain version of private-bank Lombard lending, adapted to less liquid tokenized assets and long-tail markets.
How it works
Borrowers lock up Stock Tokens as collateral, specify the amount of USDG they want to borrow, set the maximum APR they are willing to accept and choose a term between 7 and 90 days.
Lenders sign off-chain EIP-712 offers with no gas fees.
A single transaction opens the loan: the collateral is placed in an immutable escrow, USDG is transferred to the borrower and each lender receives an ERC-721 slice representing an isolated share of the loan.
The interest rate and maturity are fixed from the start. There are no shared liquidity pools and no utilization curve.
At maturity, the loan can be repaid, rolled over through an auction where the rate increases, or liquidated after default through an approximately 45-minute Dutch auction for the collateral.
Unmatched capital can temporarily be parked in a Morpho USDG vault.
The contracts are open source under the MIT license, verified and built around adminless escrow infrastructure.
A public explorer makes every loan observable on-chain.
